The holidays have come and gone, the New Year is upon us. The stores have switched gears into Valentine’s Day and even St. Patrick’s Day already, just tossing the remaining Christmas inventory into an aisle or two with deep discounts. Just because they have obviously moved on a month or two doesn’t mean winter is over just yet. You can still scoop up the discount items, if you are lucky enough to find any, and make January about winter without all of the hearts and clover.
Think snowmen and snow covered trees and houses. After all, January is the perfect time of year for everything snow in a good portion of the United States.
Cross Stitch
I have found some really awesome winter themed stitch-alongs on Facebook that you can do and there are even some awesome year long stitching projects that record the temperatures for the entire year. If you aren’t int daily stitching, you can always google some winter patterns. There are a variety out there featuring cups of coffee or cocoa, snowmen, cabins, mittens, etc. In the wide world of cross stitch there are so many options for winter themes. You just have to do a quick search and you are likely to find your new pattern.
Knit/Crochet
If you like to knit or crochet, there are so any options of things you can make to keep warm during the winter. Hats, mittens, and scarves are still very much a necessity this time of year. Don’t forget to make a matching pair of socks too! There are plenty of patterns for sale on Etsy as well. If you don’t feel like making something wearable, you can find plenty of patterns for cute stuffies as well. You can definitely keep yourself busy and warm with these wintery projects.
Painting
If you like painting, the opportunities are endless! Try painting a winter scene, a snowman, or even a snow globe. Make sure to scour Pinterest for ideas too. Wherever your imagination leads you, you can certainly paint until your heart is content. You can experiment with textures to give your painting a new look. Also, try using aluminum foil accents to create a bit of a sparkle. Give one two or even three different painting ideas a try!
Not all winter crafts have to include candy canes and Christmas packages. There are so many things you can enjoy to keep in the spirit of winter without being attached to a holiday. Why rush a month or two into the future? Time goes by too quickly as it is.
