A Crafty New Year’s Resolution

Another year has come and gone and now here we are staring a fresh year in the face. People everywhere whip out resolutions filled with their hopes and dreams for the new year. Some people, like me, try to refrain from making a resolution because they have never kept one in the past. Maybe a resolution doesn’t have to be so difficult to obtain. Maybe it can be a simple change that will improve your life in some way or another. Here are things you can do in lieu of a resolution to improve your craftiness for the new year.

Clean Out the Craft Room

Everywhere you look is filled with fabric that you bought for a purpose ten years ago and never even touched. You can spot a hundred craft items that you thought were a good idea at the time but never came around to. Well in all honesty, if you haven’t needed it in a good six months to a year, chances are you won’t ever be needing it again. Let it go and clean out your crafting space. The more you clean out, the better you will feel and the creative juices will have a chance to flow.

Set Up Your Room With Purpose

Have you ever looked all over for kitchen utensils and finally found them hiding in a junk drawer? Just like making a spot for those utterly important kitchen utensils, your craft items should have their own dedicated spot too. Once inspiration hits, you definitely don’t want to spend hours searching for an embroidery needle when you can use those same precious hours to actually get started on your cross stitch project.

If you have yarn in six different places, you are more likely to buy more of the exact same colors. By organizing your space and all of your crafty tools, you will have a space to free your mind and focus on what really matters…getting crafty.

Don’t Forget to Get Crafty

You love to define yourself by your unique crafty ideas, so why not put those ideas to the test to make your space as unique as you are? Take those empty wall pegboards for instance. Spray paint them to your color scheme and hang them on the wall (after they dry, of course). Put the pegs in and now you have a great space for your colorful spools of threads and ribbons. Clean out the empty soup cans, decorate them with fabric and embellishments and now you have a cute place to put your paintbrushes, markers or pens. My favorites are always finding new uses for things instead of throwing them away. There are so many things to can do to make your space your own while keeping it organized.

I would love to hear about some of your craft room organizational ideas. Make sure to find Okayest Crafter on Facebook and share your ideas and photos!
