As we move towards the holidays, I really like to cross stitch a little more than usual. I am not sure what it is about fall, but it always gets me into that creative mindset that I strive for all year round. Spring is always too busy when you have kids. Summer is just way too hot to even think about doing anything. Fall is just when the ideas start to flow. There is something about the scents and the changing of the leaves and the brisk air…
As the holidays start to get nearer, we are reminded of all the things we have to do. From gift giving to decorating, there are so many things to inspire crafty ideas. Have you had your extra tall pumpkin spice coffee yet or are you ready for all of the spooky things? Let me give you five creative ideas for the fall season that you can make at home with your kids!
Leaf Rubbing Pictures
This craft is simple enough and plenty of fun. You can start with a fun trip exploring to find the perfect leaves. Then you place a paper on top of the leaves and rub over the top with crayons. You can either hang the art on your refrigerator or frame it. Either way, the kids will have a blast making leaf rubbings.
Pumpkin Painting
Choosing the perfect pumpkin to carve is always a tradition in our house. It is also really fun to buy a couple of small pumpkins and letting the kids paint them. They can turn their own little pumpkin into anything they can imagine or just drip random colors of paint down from the top to give it a multicolored dripping effect. This is one activity that is sure to please.
Pipe Cleaner Skeletons
Pipe cleaner skeletons are a very cute way to decorate your home or office. Older kids would especially love making these as they can bend and shape them to dance however they want. To make them, only scissors and pipe cleaners are required. Just take a quick search online for ideas of how to make them. It is a simple craft that will surely delight the older kids at home.
Cute Little Spider Cupcakes
Whenever I think of fall, I always think of baking. Why not get crafty with your food? Cupcakes are always a favorite, so you can either choose a fall flavor, such as pumpkin or apple, or stick with vanilla or chocolate. Just add some icing, decorate the eyes, and use of licorice for the legs. These little creepy cupcakes won’t be making anyone shriek.
Thumbprint Pumpkin Patch
Little kids will absolutely love to make a thumbprint picture. You can use their thumbprints to make a pumpkin patch. All you will need is paper, orange stamp pad, and a black pen or marker to draw the faces on the pumpkins afterwards. Another idea is to pair the thumbprint painting with a good book and have them make their picture about the book. The little ones will definitely love to get their thumbs dirty with this project!
